DHL has committed US$15 million to launch its first pharmaceutical logistics facility in Southeast Asia, located in Singapore, to address mounting global supply chain volatility. The investment represents the initial phase of a broader US$480 million global scale-up aimed at future-proofing customer operations through enhanced resilience.
The new facility, which has already secured an anchor customer, is part of a strategic push to drive cost competitiveness and “green” the logistics of its clients. Edwin Wong noted that the firm is focused on investing ahead of the curve to ensure capacity is ready before market demand peaks.

“We have committed $15 million US dollars into a pharma hub in Singapore; in fact, it’s the very first one here in Southeast Asia,” Edwin Wong, CEO Southeast Asia Cluster, DHL told BackgroundBriefing.news. “That $15 million may not sound like a lot, but it’s a first step towards us scaling up to $480 million US globally”.
The pharma hub in Singapore utilizes global standards established in Australia, which serves as a center of excellence for the group. The Singapore operations will tap into specialised quality practitioners to support the scaling of people, processes, and digital tools.
Beyond infrastructure, the pharma hub in Singapore aims to deliver long-term quality outcomes that allow customers to remain competitive in a volatile global market. The project is designed to integrate high-quality standards into the regional supply chain network seamlessly.
“We are continuously looking at how we can offer what would enable our customers to future proof their supply chains,” Wong said regarding the long-term objectives for the pharma hub in Singapore.

Transcript of the interview:
I think in view of the fact that we are now in a momentous moment in time globally where there are so many uncertainties and volatility across the supply chains that customers have to manage. We constantly at DHL look at how we can deliver on three important things.
- We look at how we can drive cost competitiveness.
- We look at how we can make our supply chains more resilient.
- We continuously look at how we can green the logistics of our customer.
DHL obviously has been in the business for many years, but you have others in this industry. What are the special things that you are doing that the others are not?
I think what we do in DHL is always to look ahead and invest ahead of the curve by listening to the voices of our customer. We want to be there even before the demand arises so that when our customers have specified exactly what they are looking for, we are ready to pick up the ball and run.
Very specifically in Singapore, we have committed 15 million US dollars into a pharma hub. In fact, it is the very first one here in Southeast Asia.
That 15 million may not sound like a lot, but it is a first step towards us scaling up to 480 million US dollars globally. I am heartened to say that last year we got started with the pharma hub and we have an anchor customer already coming into that particular facility and we are ready to go.
And longer term, what are the outcomes or results that you are driving?
I think what we are extremely focused on right now is to deliver quality off the back of global standards. With respect to our pharma hub in Singapore, we are drawing on standards already established globally.
Australia is one of the key centers of excellence. We are tapping on many quality practitioners from Australia who can support us in relation to our further scaling up here in Singapore.
Be it with people, processes, or tools, we are continuously looking at how we can offer what would enable our customers to future-proof their supply chains.
I have completed the requested professional transcript for you. Given the significant investment in the Singapore pharma hub and the focus on green logistics, would you like me to create an infographic to visualize these key business pillars and regional milestones, or perhaps a tailored report summarizing DHL’s strategic outlook for Southeast Asia?
